This charming clay set brings alive one of the best-loved stories of Tamil literature — the meeting of the poet-saint Avvaiyar with Lord Muruga, who appears as a mischievous shepherd boy seated on a naval (jamun) tree. The set includes Avvaiyar with her walking staff, the boy on the fruit-laden tree, and two grazing sheep.

Spiritual & Cultural Significance

When Avvaiyar boasted of her learning, the boy on the tree asked whether she wanted "roasted or unroasted" fruit. The riddle humbled her — the fallen fruit had to be dusted, as though roasted — and she recognised Lord Muruga Himself.
