Varadaraja Perumal with Thayar – 25 & 18 Inches – Paper Mache

This large, temple-style Varadaraja Perumal idol shows Lord Vishnu in his boon-granting form — Varada meaning the giver of boons — standing upright with four arms, bearing the shankha and chakra above and the abhaya and varada mudras below, crowned with a tall kireedam and framed by draped red and green vastram.

He is paired with Thayar (Goddess Lakshmi), seated in a richly pleated blue skirt with her own crown, ornaments and vastram. Both pieces carry an antique gold finish with coloured stone-work in the jewellery and a bright orange base, giving them the presence of temple utsava idols.

Made in paper mache, the pair stays light for their size, which makes a display of this height far easier to place, move and store than clay of the same scale.
